The Position: Crucial Support in Burwell
We have an excellent vacancy for a motivated and dependable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to integrate with a well-established specialist SEN provision serving the Burwell community.
This position is absolutely central to the school's ability to deliver high-quality, person-centred education. You will provide essential support, often one-to-one or in small groups, to pupils presenting with a broad spectrum of complex needs, including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Your proactive work will be key to fostering a secure, stimulating, and truly inclusive educational experience.
Your Core Responsibilities
... - Deliver essential, individualised help, enabling students to access highly differentiated curriculum content, manage sensory input, and fully engage with school activities.
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher and specialist support services (e.g., therapists) to modify learning resources, set up therapeutic tasks, and ensure the physical environment supports accessibility and sensory needs.
- Implement specific therapeutic, communication, and behavioural strategies detailed in each student's Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), which may involve using non-verbal communication systems.
- Act as a stable and reassuring emotional anchor, expertly using de-escalation techniques and fostering positive communication during moments of significant distress.
- Contribute to ongoing observation, recording, and reporting on pupil participation, learning milestones, and overall developmental outcomes.
- Assist students with essential personal care, mealtimes, and mobility when necessary, ensuring all tasks are executed with the utmost dignity, sensitivity, and professional integrity.
Profile Requirements
- Demonstrated background in supporting children or young people, with direct experience in a specialist SEN environment or with pupils with complex needs being highly desirable.
- A naturally calm, deeply compassionate nature, strong resilience, and a genuine desire to work within a specialist educational setting.
- The ability to quickly forge professional, trusting, and positive relationships with students, parents, and all school colleagues.
- Excellent observation, communication, and teamwork skills, particularly in interpreting and reacting to subtle non-verbal cues.
- An up-to-date Enhanced Child DBS registered with the update service (or a readiness to process an application promptly).
