Are you an organised, meticulous, and compassionate Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Teaching Assistant (TA) with specific skills in supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and associated Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN)?
Do you excel at implementing highly structured routines, visual supports, and communication aids to help students manage transitions and access the curriculum effectively?
We are seeking a dedicated professional to join a welcoming and inclusive school community in the Littleport area. If you are passionate about enabling students with ASC to achieve independence and confidence, this role is perfectly suited to your skills.
The Opportunity
A fantastic and locally significant opportunity exists for a dedicated SEN Learning Support Assistant to work within a well-regarded school provision near Littleport. This role is primarily focused on supporting pupils whose primary barrier to learning is related to Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), often accompanied by difficulties in social interaction, communication, and sensory processing.
Your expertise will be crucial in designing and maintaining a predictable, low-arousal learning environment. You will be vital in helping students understand social rules, navigate sensory challenges, and use their preferred method of communication. You will primarily support students on a 1:1 basis or within small, structured work groups.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide tailored and consistent 1:1 support to named pupils with ASC, diligently implementing their individual education and communication plan targets.
- Implement and maintain visual support systems (e.g., visual timetables, social stories, Now and Next boards) to improve predictability and reduce anxiety around change.
- Assist the class teacher in preparing and using structured teaching methodologies (such as TEACCH) to ensure tasks are clear, independent, and goal-oriented.
- Facilitate the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods, if required, and support general speech and language development in collaboration with SaLT.
- Act as a stable and empathetic guide, helping students manage their sensory needs and supporting them sensitively through transitional periods.
- Accurately monitor, observe, and record data on pupil engagement, sensory responses, and breakthroughs to contribute to professional assessments and reviews.
- Work collaboratively with parents and the SENCo to ensure a unified and consistent approach to the student's support both inside and outside the classroom.
Essential Profile
- Previous professional experience supporting children or young people specifically diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- Proven ability to implement and work within highly structured routines and use visual aids effectively.
- Familiarity with common ASC-specific approaches such as TEACCH, Social Stories, or Sensory Integration techniques.
- Exceptional patience, consistency, and a methodical approach to challenges, coupled with high levels of personal resilience.
- Strong ability to build trust and professional rapport with pupils who may struggle with social interaction.
- Excellent organisational skills and the capacity to maintain detailed, sensitive records.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
Benefits of Joining Us
- A competitive daily pay rate of £90 - £95, commensurate with your specialist experience in ASC support.
- Placement within a highly supportive and inclusive school team in the Littleport area, with dedicated resources for SEN.
- Opportunities for specialist CPD in Autism awareness, sensory processing, and communication strategies.
- A role that offers profound job satisfaction by enabling pupils to overcome communication and interaction barriers.
- £300 Refer A Friend scheme (terms apply).
