Ely
Are you ready to be the person who helps a student in Ely navigate their day with confidence?
Do you have the resilience to stay calm when a student is struggling and the heart to celebrate the "invisible" progress that others might overlook?
We are looking for a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated and forward-thinking SEN School in Ely. This is a full-time role where you will support children who see the world differently-specifically those with Autism (ASC), Speech and Language challenges, and sensory processing needs. If you are looking for a career that prioritizes empathy, connection, and long-term impact over routine tasks, we want to hear from you.
How You Will Change a Student's Day
- Bespoke Learning Scaffolding: Work 1:1 to break down academic tasks into accessible, sensory-friendly activities that match the student's unique learning style.
- Communication Advocacy: Utilise tools like Makaton and Visual Timetables to reduce anxiety and provide students with a clear, predictable structure they can trust.
- Emotional Regulation: Act as a "co-regulator," helping students identify their emotions and using sensory tools or "safe zones" to remain calm and focused.
- EHCP Milestone Tracking: Record daily observations to help the teaching team track progress toward the specific goals in a student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Life Skills Mentorship: Support students during lunch, play, and practical activities to foster social confidence and personal independence.
What Makes You the Ideal Candidate?
- A Patient Outlook: You understand that progress in a specialist setting is measured in months, not minutes, and you are committed to the long-term journey.
- Adaptability: You can shift your approach instantly if a student's sensory needs or energy levels change during the day.
- Experience or Energy: While experience in care, SEN, or youth work is a huge plus, we value a proactive "can-do" attitude and a genuine passion for inclusion above all else.
- Team Player: You enjoy working closely with teachers and therapists to provide a unified support network for the child.
- Compliance: You must hold an enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
