Are you ready to be the "calm in the storm" for students who find the world a little louder and more complex than most?
Do you have the energy to jump into a rewarding classroom environment today and the heart to provide a steady, supportive presence for a child with complex needs?
We are urgently seeking a proactive and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a leading SEN School in Wilburton for an immediate start. This is a full-time, long-term role within a school that excels in supporting pupils with Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing needs. In this Wilburton setting, you won't just be "helping out"-you will be the essential support system that allows a student to feel safe, successful, and understood.
Your Responsibilities
- Immediate 1:1 Engagement: Step in to support individual students, delivering sensory-rich activities and modified learning tasks that build confidence and skills.
- Communication Bridge: Facilitate student expression through Makaton, PECS, and visual aids, ensuring every student has a functional way to share their needs.
- Proactive Regulation: Identify early signs of sensory overwhelm and implement "brain breaks" or calming strategies to help students stay regulated.
- EHCP Progress Recording: Assist the Class Teacher in documenting the "small-step" victories that form the evidence for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews.
- Dignity in Care: Provide essential support with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene with the highest level of respect and care.
- Team Collaboration: Work seamlessly with a dedicated team of teachers and therapists to maintain a consistent, nurturing environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a "calm anchor" during challenging moments or periods of student dysregulation.
- Proactive Intuition: A "can-do" mindset-you see where help is needed and take action to ensure the school day runs smoothly.
- Immediate Availability: The school needs a reliable professional who can start ASAP and commit to a consistent, full-time schedule.
- Transferable Experience: Backgrounds in care, youth work, psychology, or sports coaching are highly valued, though a genuine passion for SEN is the most important trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently through Randstad).
