Meldreth / Foxton
Are you ready to support students in an environment where every breakthrough-no matter how small-is a life-changing milestone?
Do you have the compassion to see the person behind the behaviour and the creativity to make learning accessible for those with the most complex needs?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised SEN School situated between Meldreth and Foxton. This unique setting supports children and young adults with Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), and complex physical or medical needs. In this role, you aren't just a classroom assistant; you are a vital part of a therapeutic team dedicated to providing a dignified, joyful, and stimulating education.
Your Responsibilities
- Complex Needs Support: Deliver 1:1 assistance to students with profound needs, facilitating sensory stories, hydrotherapy sessions, and rebound therapy.
- Communication Advocacy: Empower non-verbal learners using Makaton, PECS, and eye-gaze technology, ensuring every student has a way to express their choices.
- Holistic Wellbeing: Provide essential support with mobility, postural management, and personal care, ensuring the highest standards of dignity and comfort.
- Sensory Integration: Work alongside Occupational Therapists to implement sensory diets that help students stay regulated and ready to engage.
- Collaborative Care: Liaise closely with onsite nurses, therapists, and families to ensure that the educational and medical needs of each student are met seamlessly.
- Small-Step Tracking: Document progress against EHCP targets, celebrating the functional and social victories that define success for these learners.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Empathetic Resilience: A naturally calm and nurturing temperament, particularly when supporting students with high-level physical or emotional needs.
- Physical Proactivity: The ability to support students with moving and handling (training provided) and a willingness to be active throughout the school day.
- Commitment to Consistency: Our students rely on routine; we are looking for someone who can commit to a full-time, long-term schedule.
- Relevant Experience: Backgrounds in SEN, healthcare, nursing support, or care work are highly advantageous, but a genuine passion for complex needs support is essential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child & Adult DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one urgently via Randstad).
