The Opportunity
We are recruiting for a committed Specialist SEN Support Assistant (TA) to work within a highly-regarded school environment serving pupils with complex needs, including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and other associated barriers to learning, located near Mildenhall.
This role is crucial for maintaining an inclusive and effective learning environment. You will be responsible for offering personalised support, facilitating small-group instruction, and working collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure pupils access a tailored curriculum that addresses both their academic targets and their social/emotional development needs.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide consistent, effective one-on-one and small-group support to pupils, helping them remain focused and engaged throughout the school day.
- Implement differentiated learning activities and contribute to the preparation of resources, ensuring they are accessible and stimulating for pupils with diverse needs.
- Employ positive and proactive strategies to manage classroom behaviour and emotional regulation, promoting a calm and productive atmosphere.
- Assist the Class Teacher with monitoring, assessing, and recording pupils' progress, reporting on milestones related to their Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
- Champion students' social and emotional well-being, aiding in the development of essential life skills, self-esteem, and peer communication.
- Liaise professionally with colleagues, therapists, and parents, ensuring a cohesive support system for the pupil.
- Assist with personal care needs where specified in the pupil's support plan, upholding the highest standards of dignity and respect.
Essential Profile
- Demonstrable experience supporting children or young people with complex learning needs, ideally within an educational setting.
- A naturally patient, adaptable, and composed approach, particularly when faced with unexpected or challenging situations.
- Proficiency or familiarity with specialist support methods (e.g., visual timetables, communication aids, structure teaching approaches).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records.
- A collaborative mindset, ready to integrate into a supportive and multi-disciplinary team structure.
- Commitment to professional conduct and safeguarding procedures.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
