The Role
An excellent opportunity awaits a proactive and highly dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to become a key member of a well-regarded specialist school near Mildenhall. This position is offered on a temporary contract basis, with a significant possibility of transitioning to a long-term or permanent role.
This role is essential for delivering customised and highly effective education. You will collaborate closely with the Class Teacher and specialist therapeutic team, providing practical assistance with lesson preparation and resource management. Crucially, you will provide direct, focused support to students, both within the classroom environment and during all school activities. A significant part of your work will involve the systematic implementation of strategies detailed in Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), concentrating on fostering student independence, supporting communication needs, and assisting with complex personal and sensory care.
Primary Duties
- Provide targeted, high-quality support to individual students or small groups, enabling them to access a differentiated curriculum and achieve personal EHCP goals.
- Work alongside the class teacher to prepare resources, ensure the learning environment is stimulating, and manage general classroom organisation.
- Deliver respectful and dignified personal care support as needed (including assistance with hygiene, feeding, and mobility).
- Implement effective communication strategies and positive behaviour management techniques (e.g., PECS, Makaton) as directed by specialist staff.
- Maintain accurate, timely records of student progress, behavioural events, and communicate any concerns to the teaching staff.
- Contribute positively to the overall school atmosphere, strictly adhering to all safeguarding protocols and school policies.
Candidate Profile
- Demonstrated, extensive experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within an SEN school or specialist unit.
- While a relevant qualification (e.g., TA Level 2/3) is preferred, candidates with substantial practical experience will be strongly considered.
- Proven competence in supporting young people with diverse and complex Special Educational Needs (e.g., ASC, PMLD, Severe Learning Difficulties).
- Possesses exceptional patience, high resilience, adaptability, and a genuine passion for aiding students who face barriers to learning.
- Familiarity with various communication aids and successful positive behaviour support strategies.
- Must currently hold an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service or be willing to obtain one promptly.
