Are you a highly dynamic and resourceful Learning Support Assistant (LSA) or Teaching Assistant (TA) looking for a stimulating role supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN)?
Do you possess the expertise to manage a varied classroom environment, providing crucial academic scaffolding and emotional regulation support to young learners?
We are searching for a motivated individual to join a thriving and inclusive school located in the Mildenhall area of Suffolk. If you are committed to fostering independence, building confidence, and contributing to a positive learning culture, this opportunity is waiting for you.
The Role
A fantastic, enriching opportunity has arisen for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to work within a welcoming school community near Mildenhall. This position primarily involves supporting students who require additional help due to Mild Learning Difficulties (MLD), specific learning challenges (such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia), and associated needs like low self-esteem or difficulties with organisation.
Your contribution will be key to helping these students overcome barriers to learning, maintain focus, and successfully integrate into classroom activities alongside their peers. You will be expected to work across different age groups, providing flexible support, often on a small group basis or through targeted in-class differentiation to ensure curriculum access.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide robust and tailored in-class support, ensuring pupils with identified SEN can access lesson content and achieve their individual learning outcomes.
- Implement adapted learning resources and technology (e.g., visual aids, large print, reader software) to meet the specific needs arising from MLD or SpLD (Specific Learning Difficulties).
- Conduct effective, timetabled interventions in literacy and numeracy (such as phonics or targeted calculation practice) on a small-group basis outside of the main class setting.
- Collaborate closely with the SENCO and class teachers to monitor pupil progress, identify areas of difficulty, and contribute to the ongoing review of support strategies.
- Foster an environment of confidence and resilience, encouraging students to develop independent work habits and self-advocacy skills.
- Assist in preparing the learning environment, ensuring resources are accessible and appropriate for the diverse needs of the learners.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of pupil engagement and progress to support assessment and reporting.
Essential Profile
- Previous professional experience (within an educational setting) supporting pupils with Mild Learning Difficulties (MLD) or Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD).
- Practical knowledge of strategies used to support literacy and numeracy development in SEN pupils.
- An ability to differentiate tasks effectively and break down complex instructions into manageable, achievable steps.
- Excellent organisational and communication skills, with the capacity to liaise professionally with teachers, parents, and other support staff.
- A genuinely positive, patient, and motivating approach, dedicated to celebrating every small step of progress.
- High levels of initiative and the flexibility to adapt quickly to changing classroom needs.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
Your Benefits Package
- A highly competitive daily rate of £90 - £95, reflective of the vital support you will provide.
- Placement within a welcoming and collaborative school environment in the Mildenhall area, offering ongoing peer and leadership support.
- Access to valuable Continuous Professional Development (CPD) focusing on SpLD interventions and inclusive classroom practice.
- A professionally fulfilling role that directly contributes to breaking down educational barriers and improving student potential.
- £300 Refer A Friend scheme (terms apply).
