We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant SEN School in Mildenhall. This role is perfect for a calm, proactive individual who thrives in an environment where no two days are the same and where small victories are celebrated as major milestones.
Your Impact on the Day-to-Day:
- The Bridge to Learning: You will act as the vital link between the curriculum and the student, adapting tasks in real-time to suit sensory needs and concentration levels.
- Emotional Coaching: Use positive reinforcement and de-escalation techniques to help students manage their anxiety and regulate their emotions.
- Life Skills Mentor: Support students in developing functional independence-from social communication in the playground to mastering daily life tasks.
- Collaborative Support: Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists, to deliver integrated care.
- Environmental Management: Ensure the classroom remains a safe, structured, and "low-arousal" space where learners can focus and flourish.
What Makes You the Right Fit?
- Patience as a Superpower: You understand that progress isn't always linear and can remain a steady presence during a student's difficult moments.
- Adaptive Thinking: You can quickly pivot your approach if a particular activity isn't resonating with a child.
- Experience or Passion: Whether you've worked in a similar SEN setting or have a background in care, psychology, or youth work, your attitude is what matters most.
- Clear Communication: Ability to use visual aids and simplified language to ensure instructions are clear and stress-free.
- Vetting: You must hold an enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be willing to undergo a new check.
