Mildenhall
Are you ready to be the advocate who helps a student in Mildenhall unlock their world?
Do you have the emotional intelligence to look past a child's challenges and the patience to celebrate the small, transformative steps toward independence?
We are searching for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised school community in Mildenhall. This is a full-time role designed for an empathetic individual who understands that "progress" isn't always linear. You will be supporting students with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC), social-emotional challenges (SEMH), and moderate learning difficulties. If you want a role where your consistency and kindness are your greatest professional assets, we want to hear from you.
How You Will Shape a Student's Day
- Tailored Learning Support: Work 1:1 to break down classroom tasks into sensory-friendly, manageable goals that build a student's confidence rather than their frustration.
- Communication Bridging: Facilitate expression for non-verbal or pre-verbal learners using Visual Timetables and Now and Next boards to provide a clear, predictable structure.
- Emotional Coaching: Act as a stabilising presence during sensory or emotional overload, utilizing "calm-down" strategies and low-arousal techniques to help students self-regulate.
- EHCP Milestone Tracking: Observe and document daily progress toward the specific social and academic targets outlined in a student's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
- Life Skills Mentorship: Support students during lunch, transitions, and play, helping them navigate social cues and build vital peer-to-peer relationships.
What Makes You the Right Fit?
- A Resilient Heart: You understand that supporting students with SEN requires a "marathon" mindset and a calm, objective approach during difficult moments.
- Proactive Adaptability: You can sense when a student's energy is shifting and adjust your support style-from high-energy engagement to quiet observation-in an instant.
- Strong Communication: The ability to work effectively as part of a "Team Around the Child," collaborating with teachers, therapists, and parents.
- Experience or Passion: While a background in care, youth work, or school support is highly valued, a genuine commitment to inclusive education is our top priority.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
