Mildenhall
Are you ready to be the daily difference-maker for a student who experiences the world with unique intensity?
Do you have the professional "soft skills" to build trust where others see barriers, and the resilience to remain a steady, positive force throughout a busy school day?
We are seeking a compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a well regarded SEN School in Mildenhall. This is a long-term, full-time role within a school dedicated to pupils with complex learning needs, including Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD). In Mildenhall, you won't just be "managing" a classroom; you will be fostering the confidence and communication skills that allow a student to navigate their world.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Interactive 1:1 Support: Implement customised learning pathways that focus on sensory engagement and functional life skills.
- Communication Support: Utilise Makaton, PECS, and visual aids to empower non-verbal or pre-verbal students to share their voice.
- Proactive Regulation: Create a "safety net" for students by identifying early signs of distress and utilising sensory breaks or de-escalation strategies.
- Progress Documentation: Work with the Class Teacher to capture the "small-step" victories that form the evidence for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews.
- Personal Care with Respect: Provide vital assistance with meal times, mobility, and hygiene, ensuring every student's dignity is at the heart of your care.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: Act as a key link between the teacher, therapy teams, and the student to ensure a unified approach to learning.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to stay calm and grounded when students are experiencing emotional dysregulation or exhibiting challenging behaviour.
- Proactive Intuition: You are someone who "notices the small things"-anticipating a student's needs before they lead to frustration.
- Dependability: Consistency is a form of care for our students; we need a professional committed to being a reliable part of their daily routine.
- Transferable Skills: Whether your background is in care, psychology, sports, or creative arts, your ability to connect with neurodiverse learners is what matters most.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one via Randstad).
