The Opportunity: Essential Role in FordhamWe are actively seeking a reliable and empathetic SEN Classroom Support Worker / Teaching Assistant (TA) to join our highly respected partner SEN school located near Fordham.
This is a vital support position focused on delivering personalised, hands-on assistance within the classroom. You will work with pupils who have diverse and significant needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and specific behavioural or communication challenges. Your daily presence will be fundamental in maintaining a structured, positive, and inclusive atmosphere.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide essential, tailored support to students, helping them to focus on tasks, follow visual schedules, and successfully engage with their differentiated curriculum.
- Collaborate effectively with the class teacher and multi-disciplinary staff to prepare the learning environment and adapt resources to meet all sensory and functional requirements.
- Implement specific therapeutic and behaviour intervention strategies outlined in students' Individual Education Plans (IEPs) or EHCPs.
- Act as a reliable regulator and mentor, offering proactive de-escalation support and modelling appropriate social and emotional responses.
- Diligently monitor and record observations regarding student learning progress, engagement levels, and overall well-being for team review.
- Assist pupils with necessary personal care, hygiene, feeding, and mobility tasks as required, ensuring all duties are performed with the highest level of respect and discretion.
Candidate Requirements
- Proven experience supporting children or young people with complex SEN, ideally within a school or comparable setting, is non-negotiable.
- An inherently compassionate, non-judgemental, and highly adaptable temperament, coupled with a sincere enthusiasm for this specialist area of education.
- The capacity to build strong, professional, and positive working relationships quickly with pupils who may have limited verbal communication.
- Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively as part of a cohesive team.
- An active Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one without delay).
