The Opportunity: Vital Support in NewmarketWe are offering an excellent post for a proactive and committed Special Needs Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join a well-established specialist SEN school serving the Newmarket community.
This position is central to delivering exceptional, individualised education. You will be offering tailored support, both one-to-one and in small groups, to students with a variety of profound and diverse needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), severe learning difficulties (SLD), and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD). Your daily input will directly help cultivate a secure, inclusive, and rewarding educational journey.
Core Responsibilities- Provide essential, tailored help to students, enabling them to access differentiated learning activities, manage sensory input, and fully engage in classroom life.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and external professionals (e.g., therapists) to modify resources, set up specialised activities, and ensure the learning space is suitable for sensory and mobility needs.
- Implement specific therapeutic, behavioural, and communication strategies outlined within students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), which may involve alternative communication methods.
- Serve as a reliable emotional presence, using calm and effective de-escalation techniques and encouraging functional communication during challenging periods.
- Contribute to ongoing assessment and accurate documentation of pupil development, participation levels, and overall progress.
- Assist with pupils' personal care, mobility, and mealtimes when required, executing all duties with the highest standards of discretion, respect, and professionalism.
- Proven history of supporting children or young adults, ideally within a specialist SEN provision or with pupils facing significant learning challenges, is highly valued.
- A naturally calm, empathetic, and robust disposition, with a clear passion for the specialist educational field.
- The capacity to rapidly forge professional, strong, and trusting relationships with pupils, their families, and colleagues.
- Excellent skills in observation, communication, and teamwork, particularly in identifying and responding to non-verbal signals.
- Possessing an Enhanced Child DBS registered on the update service (or a willingness to complete the necessary checks promptly).
- A competitive pay rate, currently £90 - £95 per day.
