The Position: Dedicated Assistance in FordhamWe have an exciting opportunity for a proactive and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join an established special educational needs setting serving the Fordham area.
This role is fundamental to delivering a high standard of student-centered education. You will deliver targeted support, primarily one-on-one and within small groups, to pupils facing various complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD), and severe learning difficulties (SLD). Your work will directly support the creation of a secure, encouraging, and enriching learning atmosphere.
Key Duties and Responsibilities- Provide essential, customised assistance, helping students to access modified curricula, manage their sensory needs, and actively participate in lessons.
- Collaborate closely with the classroom teacher and multidisciplinary staff (e.g., speech therapists) to prepare learning materials, set up specialised activities, and ensure the environment supports physical and sensory requirements.
- Implement specific communication and therapeutic strategies detailed in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), potentially using non-verbal methods.
- Act as a stable emotional presence, skilfully using de-escalation techniques and promoting effective communication during moments of distress.
- Contribute to monitoring and documenting student engagement, progress, and overall holistic development accurately.
- Support students with personal care, mobility, and feeding as necessary, always maintaining the highest levels of discretion, dignity, and professional conduct.
- Demonstrated experience working with children or young people, with previous experience in a specialist SEN environment or with complex learning needs being a distinct advantage.
- A naturally calm, compassionate temperament, strong resilience, and a genuine enthusiasm for specialist education.
- The ability to quickly build trusting, professional relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Excellent observational skills, teamwork, and communication abilities, particularly in recognising and responding to subtle cues.
- An up-to-date Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or the willingness to apply for one without delay).
- A strong daily pay rate between £90 - £95.
