A rewarding opportunity is now available for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner school in Newmarket. We are searching for an adaptable professional to provide high-quality support to students with various needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. This is a chance to be a steady, positive influence in the lives of children who require a little extra help to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Work closely with individual pupils or small groups to facilitate their engagement with learning and social activities.
- Support the classroom teacher by setting up specialised equipment and creating inclusive, sensory-appropriate resources.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques to ensure a safe and productive learning atmosphere for all.
- Assist in monitoring and documenting the small wins and major milestones achieved by students in line with their EHCPs.
- Encourage the development of life skills and social independence, helping students build confidence in their own abilities.
- Act as a bridge between the school and students, ensuring that every child feels heard, understood, and supported.
Requirements
- Prior experience in a care, youth work, or educational setting supporting individuals with SEN is preferred.
- A calm, compassionate, and empathetic personality with the ability to handle challenging situations with grace.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, to effectively connect with diverse learners.
- A proactive approach to learning new specialist skills, such as Makaton, PECS, or de-escalation strategies.
- Relevant qualifications (Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are beneficial, but a genuine passion for SEN is essential.
- An enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one).
