Newmarket
Are you a compassionate and adaptable individual ready to support students in Newmarket to overcome their barriers to learning?
Do you have the resilience to stay calm during challenging moments and the empathy to celebrate the unique way every child perceives the world?
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised school in Newmarket. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity where you will work with students who have a range of additional needs, including Autism (ASC), Speech and Language challenges, and Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD). If you are looking for a role where your personality and commitment can directly impact a child's future, we want to hear from you.
Your Role: Impact & Responsibilities
In this Newmarket setting, you will be the vital link between a student's potential and their classroom success.
- 1:1 Learning Support: Deliver tailored interventions that break down complex tasks into manageable, sensory-friendly steps.
- Communication Advocacy: Support students who use alternative communication methods, such as PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) or visual schedules, to help them express their needs.
- Behavioral Regulation: Implement positive behavior strategies and "reset" routines to help students manage their emotions and remain in a state ready for learning.
- EHCP Contribution: Assist the class teacher in tracking progress against specific Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets, providing detailed feedback on a student's daily wins.
- Holistic Wellbeing: Supervise students during break times and therapy sessions, ensuring they feel safe, included, and supported throughout the entire school day.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- A Patient Mindset: You understand that progress in an SEN setting is a marathon, not a sprint, and you are happy to work at the student's pace.
- Strong Interpersonal Skills: The ability to build a relationship of trust with students who may find social interaction difficult.
- Adaptability: You can think on your feet and adjust your support style based on a student's changing sensory or emotional needs.
- Previous Experience: A background in education, care, sports coaching, or youth work is an advantage, but a genuine passion for SEN is the most important factor.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one).
