Newmarket
Are you ready to be the steady influence that helps a student in Newmarket navigate their world?
Do you have the compassion to listen when a child cannot find their words and the resilience to stay calm during their most challenging moments?
We are seeking a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant and caring SEN School in Newmarket. This full-time role is perfect for an empathetic individual who recognises that every student's "lightbulb moment" happens at a different pace. Whether it's supporting a child with Autism (ASC), ADHD, or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), your goal will be to remove the barriers that stand between them and their potential.
How You Will Impact a Student's Journey
- Individualised Learning: Break down academic tasks into manageable, sensory-friendly steps, ensuring the curriculum remains accessible and stress-free.
- Communication Coaching: Assist students using Visual Schedules and First/Then boards to build a sense of security and predictable routine throughout the school day.
- Emotional Support: Act as a "co-regulator," helping students identify their feelings and utilizing sensory tools or quiet zones to prevent overwhelm.
- EHCP Progress Mapping: Work hand-in-hand with the class teacher to observe and record daily progress toward a student's specific Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Life Skills Mentorship: Guide students through social interactions during break times and lunch, fostering the social confidence they need for life beyond the classroom.
What You'll Bring
- A Patient Outlook: You understand that progress in a specialist setting is a marathon, not a sprint, and you are committed to the long-term journey.
- Adaptability: You can shift your energy and approach instantly based on a student's changing sensory needs or emotional state.
- Proactive Energy: You don't just wait for instructions; you anticipate triggers and intervene with kindness before frustration builds.
- Relevant Background: Experience in care, youth work, or previous school support is a plus, but a genuine passion for inclusive education is what we value most.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
