Newmarket
Do you have the "emotional intelligence" to sense when a student is overwhelmed and the patience to provide the gentle guidance they need to succeed?
We are looking for a committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting in Newmarket. This full-time role is designed for a professional who views "behaviour as a form of communication" and is dedicated to fostering a supportive, low-arousal environment. You will be working with children and young people with a variety of needs, including Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and sensory processing differences.
Key Responsibilities
- Bespoke Learning Support: Adapt classroom activities into accessible, "small-step" tasks that cater to the unique cognitive and sensory profiles of individual learners.
- Communication Facilitation: Utilise tools such as Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables to bridge communication gaps and empower students to express themselves.
- Emotional Co-Regulation: Identify early signs of dysregulation and use proactive strategies, such as sensory breaks, to help students remain calm and focused.
- EHCP Progress Monitoring: Support the Class Teacher by observing and documenting student achievements in relation to their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Inclusive Care: Assist with personal care, mobility, and mealtime routines, always ensuring the student's dignity and independence are respected.
What You'll Bring
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to stay grounded and supportive during challenging moments, providing a consistent sense of safety for the students.
- Proactive Initiative: A "can-do" attitude and the ability to anticipate student needs before they lead to frustration or disengagement.
- Reliability: A commitment to being a dependable, long-term presence in the lives of students who thrive on routine and stability.
- Transferable Skills: Experience in care, youth work, or mental health is highly beneficial, but a genuine passion for special education is the most important trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
- Competitive Pay: £90 - £95 per day
- Local Stability: A consistent, full-time placement in a welcoming Soham school community.
- Expert CPD: Access free, certified training in Team Teach, Autism Awareness, and Safeguarding.
- Personalised Guidance: Support from Neeraj, your dedicated consultant who understands the local SEN landscape and will help you thrive.
- Referral Rewards: Earn a £300 voucher for every qualified friend or colleague you refer to the Randstad family!
