Are you ready to be the anchor for students who navigate a world that often feels loud and unpredictable?
Do you have the professional compassion to see the person behind the behaviour and the heart to celebrate the "inch-stones" that represent life-changing progress?
We are searching for a resilient and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated specialist school in Newmarket. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to work within an inclusive community that champions students with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and sensory processing challenges. In this role, your primary mission is to ensure that every student feels safe, understood, and empowered to learn.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Empowerment: Deliver bespoke, sensory-integrated activities designed to help individual students meet their cognitive and emotional potential.
- Communication Mastery: Facilitate student expression using Makaton, PECS, or visual timetables, ensuring that every learner has a functional way to communicate their needs.
- Sensory Regulation: Actively monitor for signs of sensory distress, utilising "brain breaks," heavy work, or low-arousal zones to help students stay regulated.
- EHCP Progress Evidence: Work closely with the Class Teacher to observe and document the small, meaningful steps students take toward their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Personal Care with Respect: Provide essential support with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene, always prioritising the student's dignity and comfort.
- Classroom Synergy: Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of teachers and therapists to maintain a consistent and predictable learning environment.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a calm, co-regulating presence during periods of student frustration or challenging behaviour.
- Proactive Intuition: A "ready-for-anything" mindset-you can anticipate a student's needs and adapt your approach before a challenge escalates.
- Unwavering Reliability: Our students rely on the security of familiar faces; we need a dependable professional committed to the routine of the school week.
- Transferable Skills: Experience in healthcare, youth work, or psychology is highly beneficial, but a genuine passion for SEN is the ultimate requirement.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
- Competitive PAYE Rates: £90 - £95 per day, with clear, weekly pay and no hidden umbrella fees.
- Newmarket Stability: Secure a consistent, full-time role in a school that values staff wellbeing and specialist development.
