Newmarket
Looking for a role that offers total control over your schedule while allowing you to change a student's day for the better?
Do you have the professional "spark" to step into a new classroom, build an immediate connection, and provide the steady support a neurodiverse learner needs to succeed?
We are seeking adaptable and energetic Ad-hoc SEN Teaching Assistants to join our partner SEN Schools in and around Newmarket. This is the perfect opportunity for someone who needs a work-life balance-perhaps you are a student, a parent, or a career-changer-but still wants to make a tangible difference. You will provide essential cover for permanent staff, working with pupils who have Autism (ASC), Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD), and sensory processing needs.
Your Responsibilities
- Instant Rapport Building: Quickly identifying a student's unique interests and motivators to encourage engagement in sensory and academic activities.
- Communication Support: Utilising basic Makaton, PECS, or visual choice boards to ensure non-verbal or pre-verbal students can express their needs.
- Proactive Regulation: Supporting the permanent team in maintaining a calm, low-arousal atmosphere and helping students utilise "brain breaks" effectively.
- Classroom Versatility: Assisting with a wide range of activities, from outdoor learning and forest school sessions to functional life skills in the local Newmarket community.
- Dignity & Wellbeing: Providing essential assistance with mobility and personal care where required, ensuring every student feels safe, clean, and respected.
- Active Collaboration: Being the "right hand" to the Class Teacher, jumping in where support is needed most to ensure a smooth and productive school day.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Exceptional Adaptability: The ability to walk into different settings and adjust your support style to the specific needs of the students on that day.
- Resilient Positivity: A calm, "can-do" attitude that remains steady even during a student's difficult or dysregulated moments.
- Reliability: When you accept a shift, the school and the students are counting on you to be a dependable part of their day.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, healthcare, care work, or youth coaching is ideal, but a genuine heart for supporting neurodiverse learners is the most important trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process one through Randstad).
