Newmarket
Are you ready to be the daily anchor for students navigating a world that often feels loud and unpredictable?
We are seeking a compassionate, proactive, and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a highly regarded SEN School in Newmarket. This is a full-time, long-term opportunity to work within a purpose-built environment supporting children and young people with diverse needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and sensory processing differences. In this Newmarket-based role, your presence won't just support a classroom; it will provide the safety and consistency a student needs to truly flourish.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Targeted 1:1 Mentorship: Deliver personalised, sensory-integrated activities that cater to the specific cognitive and emotional profile of your assigned student.
- Communication Advocacy: Empower students using PECS, Makaton, or visual choice boards, ensuring every learner has a voice in their education.
- Sensory Regulation: Identify environmental triggers early and utilise "brain breaks" or sensory circuit sessions to help students maintain emotional balance.
- Progress Tracking: Collaborate with the Class Teacher to document "small-step" achievements that form the evidence for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews.
- Dignified Personal Care: Assist with mobility, meal times, and personal hygiene with the highest level of respect, maintaining the student's comfort and privacy.
- Proactive Collaboration: Act as a "right hand" to the Class Teacher, jumping in to support small group interventions and creative learning tasks.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: The ability to remain a calm and co-regulating influence during periods of student dysregulation.
- Proactive Spirit: A "can-do" attitude-you anticipate needs and prepare resources before being asked, ensuring the school day runs smoothly.
- Unwavering Reliability: Our students find change difficult; we need a dedicated professional who will be a consistent, dependable figure in their daily routine.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, healthcare, care, or youth coaching is highly valued, though a genuine heart for neurodiverse learners is the essential requirement.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
