Royston
Are you ready to be the anchor for a child navigating a complex world?
Do you have compassion to see past challenging behaviour and the heart to celebrate the "small" breakthroughs that are actually massive milestones?
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Royston. This role offers the opportunity for both long-term supply and permanent placement for the right candidate. You will be supporting students with a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and complex communication challenges. In this environment, your consistency and empathy are the most valuable tools you can bring to the classroom.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- 1:1 Learning Scaffolding: Work closely with individual students to break down academic tasks into sensory-friendly, manageable steps.
- Communication Support: Assist students using Makaton, PECS, or visual aids, ensuring every child has a way to express their needs and choices.
- Sensory & Emotional Regulation: Monitor student wellbeing, identifying triggers for sensory overload and guiding students to "calm-down" zones or sensory circuits.
- EHCP Goal Tracking: Collaborate with the Class Teacher to observe and document progress toward specific Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets.
- Personal Care & Dignity: Provide essential support with mobility, meal times, and personal care, ensuring every student feels comfortable and respected.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Unshakeable Resilience: You understand that some days are harder than others, and you have the emotional strength to remain a calm, co-regulating presence.
- Proactive Intuition: You can anticipate a student's needs before they escalate, acting quickly to maintain a positive learning environment.
- Adaptability: You can shift your approach instantly-from high-energy motivation to quiet, low-arousal observation-depending on the student's current state.
- Relevant Background: Experience in care, mental health, youth work, or previous SEN school support is highly valued, but a "can-do" attitude is essential.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one via Randstad).
Why Partner with Randstad?

- Specialist CPD: Access free, certified training in Team Teach, Autism Awareness, and Safeguarding.
- Dedicated Consultant: Work with Neeraj, your personal consultant who understands the Royston and Hertfordshire/Cambridgeshire border market.
- Referral Bonus: Earn £300 for every friend or colleague you successfully refer to the Randstad family!
