Key Responsibilities
As a Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant, your role is crucial to the success of the classroom. You will be responsible for:
Delivering one-to-one or small-group support to pupils with diverse learning needs, including autism, ADHD, and moderate to severe learning difficulties.
Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and achieve specific learning targets.
Helping to adapt activities and lessons to ensure all children can fully participate and feel included in the school community.
Utilising proactive and positive behaviour management strategies to support pupils with complex needs, in line with school policy.
Fostering communication and social skills, helping children to develop confidence and independence.
Collaborating with external professionals, such as therapists and educational psychologists, to provide holistic support for the child.
Requirements
To be successful in this role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children with SEN in a school or similar setting.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or similar strategies is preferred.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
A nurturing and patient approach to working with children.
A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
