The Role: Essential Support at a wonderful SEN SchoolWe are looking for a proactive and committed SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to join our successful partner SEN school near Soham.
This role is essential for quality educational provision. It involves offering one-to-one and small group support to pupils with diverse and complex needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), significant communication needs, and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. You will be key in maintaining a stable, nurturing, and enriching learning environment.
Your Primary Responsibilities
- Provide vital, customised support to students, helping them focus on tasks, manage transitions, and participate actively in highly differentiated lessons.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and external professionals to adapt resources, set up activities, and ensure the learning space meets all sensory and practical requirements.
- Implement specific behaviour and communication strategies outlined in students' support plans, which may include using techniques like PECS or Makaton.
- Act as a reliable emotional anchor, employing calm de-escalation methods and modelling positive coping mechanisms during moments of crisis or anxiety.
- Contribute to the continuous monitoring and reporting of pupil progress, engagement levels, and overall personal development.
- Assist with pupils' mobility and personal care needs as necessary, executing all tasks with professionalism, discretion, and respect.
We're Looking For Candidates Who Have:
- Proven, demonstrable experience supporting children or young people, specifically those with complex Special Educational Needs, is a must.
- A naturally calm, empathetic, and highly resilient attitude, combined with genuine enthusiasm for the specialist school environment.
- The ability to establish strong, trusting, and professional relationships with both pupils and staff immediately.
- Excellent teamwork capabilities, strong communication skills, and keen observational abilities.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the capacity to obtain one promptly).
