The Opportunity
We are seeking a skilled Specialist SEN Support Facilitator (Teaching Assistant) for a rewarding long-term placement within a supportive school environment in the Soham area. The school is focused on providing inclusive education for pupils who require targeted interventions to access the curriculum.
This key role involves working closely with the SENCO and teaching staff to deliver focused, small-group, and 1:1 intervention sessions. Your efforts will be crucial in improving literacy, numeracy, and overall study skills for students with identified learning differences, helping them to develop effective learning strategies and boost their self-esteem.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver targeted, structured intervention sessions (e.g., phonics, precision teaching, specific literacy/numeracy programmes) to individuals and small groups.
- Adapt and create specialist learning resources, utilising multi-sensory and structured approaches to suit pupils with specific learning differences.
- Provide in-class support, ensuring pupils with learning difficulties can fully participate in lessons and complete tasks by offering appropriate scaffolding and modification.
- Monitor, track, and document the academic progress of supported pupils, providing clear, analytical feedback on intervention effectiveness to the teaching team.
- Promote independent learning strategies and self-advocacy skills, empowering students to understand their needs and take ownership of their education.
- Maintain a positive, motivating, and highly structured learning environment that celebrates effort and progress.
- Collaborate effectively with parents and external professionals (e.g., Educational Psychologists) to ensure consistency between home and school support.
Essential Profile
- Strong experience supporting children or young people with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, or Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD).
- Knowledge of, or willingness to train in, specific intervention programmes (e.g., structured literacy programmes).
- A highly methodical, organised, and patient approach, with excellent communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong, encouraging, and professional relationships with students who may struggle with confidence.
- Flexibility and initiative to respond to the varying needs of the students and the school schedule.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
