The Opportunity
We are seeking a dedicated SEN TA for a long-term position within a highly supportive primary or secondary school near the Milton area.
This role is vital for maintaining an inclusive learning environment. You will be tasked with providing tailored 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who have identified MLD and may require significant assistance with literacy, numeracy, and social skills development. Your work will involve implementing targeted intervention strategies and fostering an atmosphere of positive learning and perseverance.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide direct support to pupils with MLD, helping them to access a differentiated curriculum by simplifying instructions and guiding them through tasks.
- Assist the class teacher in the preparation and adaptation of teaching materials, making use of visual aids, practical resources, and structured repetition.
- Implement specific intervention programs (e.g., focused phonics, numeracy booster sessions) designed to address core learning gaps.
- Proactively encourage and motivate students, focusing on their effort and progress to build vital self-esteem and resilience.
- Help students develop effective study habits and improve their organisational skills.
- Monitor, track, and accurately record student performance and behaviour during supported sessions, reporting key findings to the teaching staff and SENCO.
- Assist with supervision during non-contact time and support pupils during classroom transitions, ensuring a sense of security and structure.
Essential Profile
- Strong prior experience supporting children or young people with Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD) or general learning delays in an educational setting.
- A naturally patient, encouraging, and highly consistent approach, understanding the importance of routine for supported learners.
- Ability to break down curriculum information into accessible, manageable chunks.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
- A commitment to maintaining high levels of professionalism, confidentiality, and safeguarding.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
