St Ives
Are you a compassionate and resilient professional looking to make a meaningful impact in a close-knit, supportive educational community?
We are seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner SEN School in the heart of St Ives. This school is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere and its commitment to providing a tailored, sensory-rich education for students with Autism (ASC), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), and speech and language challenges. In this St Ives-based role, you will be the consistent, encouraging presence that helps a student bridge the gap between their challenges and their achievements.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Targeted 1:1 Engagement: Deliver bespoke learning activities and sensory-based tasks that cater to the specific emotional and cognitive profile of your assigned student.
- Communication Support: Empower students using Makaton, PECS, and visual timetables, ensuring every learner has a functional way to communicate their needs and choices.
- Proactive Regulation: Identify environmental triggers early and utilise "quiet zones" or sensory breaks to help students maintain emotional balance and focus.
- Academic Scaffolding: Assist the Class Teacher in modifying lesson materials, ensuring that subjects like Literacy and Numeracy are accessible and engaging for all.
- Progress Tracking: Document "small-step" victories and behavioural observations to provide vital evidence for EHCP (Education, Health and Care Plan) reviews.
- Community & Life Skills: Support students during local outings and practical life-skills sessions, helping them build confidence in real-world settings.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- Resilient Empathy: A naturally calm, compassionate, and nurturing temperament, particularly when supporting students through periods of dysregulation.
- Proactive Intuition: A "can-do" mindset-you anticipate needs and prepare resources to ensure the school day runs smoothly for both staff and students.
- Commitment to Consistency: Our students thrive on routine; we are looking for a professional who can commit to a consistent, full-time schedule.
- Relevant Background: Experience in SEN, care work, psychology, or youth coaching is highly valued, but a genuine heart for neurodiverse learners is the essential trait.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
