The Role
An exceptional role is available for a dedicated SEN Support Practitioner to join a forward-thinking school provision near Stowmarket. This position is centred on supporting pupils whose challenges encompass a mixture of Mild Learning Difficulties (MLD), emerging needs related to Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH), and difficulties with concentration and engagement.
Your key function will be to act as a scaffolding specialist, ensuring that learners who struggle with motivation or focus can successfully access the curriculum and develop key life skills. You will primarily work with students on a 1:1 or paired basis, applying structured routines and motivational techniques to keep them engaged.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver essential, tailored support to specific pupils, ensuring rigorous implementation of their individual behaviour and learning targets throughout the school day.
- Implement effective strategies for managing low-level disruption and attention deficits, utilising tools like visual timers and clear, concise instructions.
- Work collaboratively with the classroom teacher to modify curriculum content, transforming abstract concepts into practical, manageable tasks.
- Serve as a positive and reliable adult figure, promoting good decision-making skills and facilitating positive peer interactions.
- Accurately track student engagement, document interventions, and report on outcomes, ensuring data is ready for SEN review meetings.
- Assist in the preparation of a structured learning environment, ensuring resources are organised and easily accessible to promote independence.
- Actively engage in team training and share successful intervention techniques with colleagues, promoting a unified approach.
Candidate Essentials
- Prior professional experience supporting children or young people with a combination of MLD, low-level SEMH, or challenges related to attention (e.g., ADHD).
- Demonstrated ability to maintain a calm, consistent, and motivational approach, especially when working with disengaged learners.
- Familiarity with structured intervention programmes in literacy and numeracy and the ability to deliver these effectively.
- Exceptional levels of energy, adaptability, and a proactive mindset toward anticipating pupil needs.
- High standards of professionalism, time management, and the ability to handle confidential information discreetly.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
