Stowmarket
Do you believe that every child deserves a mentor who never gives up on them?
Are you a calm, resilient professional looking for a Full-Time role in Stowmarket where you can help students with additional needs turn their challenges into strengths?
We are searching for an SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialised education team in Stowmarket. This is a role for someone who understands that "success" looks different for every student-whether it's mastering a social interaction, completing a task independently, or effectively communicating a need. If you have the heart to support learners with Autism (ASC) and complex learning barriers, we want you on our team.
How You Will Make a Difference
- 1:1 Learning Tailoring: Adapt classroom materials on the fly to match a student's sensory preferences and cognitive level, ensuring no one is left behind.
- Consistency & Structure: Use Visual Timetables and "Now and Next" strategies to provide the predictable environment that students with SEN need to feel secure.
- Emotional Regulation: Act as a co-regulator for students experiencing sensory overload, using de-escalation techniques and quiet-zone interventions to restore calm.
- EHCP Goal Tracking: Be the eyes and ears for the teaching staff, documenting progress toward Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) targets with care and precision.
- Social Coaching: Help students navigate the complexities of the playground and group work, fostering inclusive relationships and building their self-esteem.
Your Toolkit for Success
- Unshakeable Patience: You understand that progress takes time and you are happy to provide the steady, long-term support required.
- Proactive Energy: You don't wait to be told what to do; you anticipate a student's needs and act to prevent frustration before it starts.
- Clear Communication: The ability to use simplified language and visual cues to make instructions stress-free and accessible.
- Relevant Experience: Backgrounds in care, coaching, or previous classroom work are great, but a deep-seated commitment to inclusion is essential.
- Compliance: You must possess an enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be prepared to apply for one.
