The Role
We have an exciting and meaningful opportunity for a committed SEN Learning Support Assistant to join a well-regarded educational provision close to Sudbury. The focus of this role is on providing targeted support to pupils who require structured guidance to manage their Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, navigate Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), or overcome Mild Learning Difficulties (MLD).
You will be crucial in equipping students with effective self-regulation skills, improving their ability to concentrate, and ensuring they can successfully access the mainstream or tailored curriculum. This role involves working primarily on a 1:1 basis or with small groups of pupils who may exhibit challenging behaviours due to underlying emotional or learning complexities.
Key Responsibilities Defined
- Deliver focused, individualised support to designated pupils, ensuring consistent progress towards their behavioural and academic targets throughout the day.
- Implement established Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) plans and school strategies to proactively minimise disruption and help pupils manage frustration in healthy ways.
- Collaborate closely with the class teacher to modify educational materials, breaking down complex instructions into accessible, scaffolded steps.
- Serve as a consistent and empathetic role model, aiding pupils in developing positive social skills and successfully managing transitions between activities.
- Accurately document detailed observations regarding pupil involvement, behavioural incidents, and positive achievements to inform professional assessments and future planning.
- Actively participate in required professional development and team meetings, always offering constructive, solutions-oriented input.
- Cultivate a professional, trusting, and encouraging rapport with students to boost their engagement and commitment to learning.
Candidate Profile: What You'll Need
- Substantial professional experience supporting children or young people with complex behaviours, including those with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
- Demonstrable ability to maintain composure and authority when addressing challenging situations, employing clear and fair boundaries.
- A solid understanding of behavioural intervention techniques and a genuine insight into the root causes of challenging behaviour.
- Exceptional personal drive, high resilience, and an energetic, forward-thinking approach to problem resolution.
- Strong organisational abilities and an unwavering commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional standards.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or readiness to complete one promptly).
