The Role:
This is a key, full-time opportunity for a highly motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to join the valued support staff at a respected school in Swavesey on a long-term contract (with a strong prospect of becoming permanent). The role has a guaranteed start date of January 2026.
This position focuses on providing essential learning support and promoting independence. Working closely with the Class Teacher and the SENCO, you will be responsible for delivering tailored literacy and numeracy interventions, adapting learning resources, and primarily focusing on providing direct, continuous 1:1 and small-group support to help students engage effectively with their learning. You will be instrumental in helping students develop executive function skills, emotional literacy, and self-confidence, ensuring they can access and thrive within an inclusive mainstream environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality, targeted, and continuous 1:1 or small-group support across different subjects, helping students achieve their personal and academic EHCP targets.
- Assist the class teacher with daily classroom organisation, creating differentiated resources, and maintaining a stimulating and positive learning environment.
- Implement approved positive behaviour management strategies and provide consistent emotional support to help students regulate their feelings and manage challenges.
- Support students with specific learning needs (e.g., reading comprehension, mathematical understanding) using evidence-based strategies.
- Accurately monitor, record, and report on student progress, behaviour, and any concerns to the class teacher and relevant pastoral staff.
- Contribute actively to the school's positive culture, ensuring adherence to all school policies and safeguarding procedures.
Requirements
- Significant, demonstrable experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally supporting children with MLD, SpLD, or SEMH needs.
- A relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to build excellent rapport with students, staff, and parents within a school community.
- Exceptional organisation, consistency, adaptability, and a genuine drive to help young people overcome learning barriers.
- Knowledge of strategies for supporting specific learning difficulties (e.g., dyslexia, dyspraxia) is advantageous.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
- Full-time availability to commence the role in January 2026.
