The Position:We are looking for a high-calibre SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive specialist school in Thetford. This contract role offers excellent exposure and the possibility of a permanent placement for the right candidate.
In this vital support function, you will collaborate closely with teaching staff and therapists to ensure all students receive the tailored attention required to thrive. Your daily work will involve implementing individual support plans (EHCPs), managing classroom resources, and creating a stable, engaging learning atmosphere. Success in this role means actively fostering student independence, supporting their emotional regulation, and assisting with any necessary physical or personal care requirements.
Core Responsibilities- Provide targeted one-on-one or small-group instructional support to students across various age groups and abilities.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher to prepare and adapt learning materials and maintain a tidy, accessible classroom.
- Assist in the successful implementation of individualised behaviour and communication strategies (such as visual timetables or PECS).
- Offer dignified support with personal care needs (including feeding, toileting, and mobility assistance) when necessary.
- Monitor student engagement, progress, and well-being, providing clear, consistent feedback to the teaching staff.
- Adhere strictly to all school policies, particularly those related to safeguarding and health and safety.
- Prior experience working with children or young people with complex SEN is essential (e.g., in a mainstream inclusion unit, specialist school, or similar setting).
- A relevant qualification (like a TA certificate) is beneficial, though we prioritise practical experience and dedication.
- A proven track record of using positive behaviour management techniques and being able to respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, demonstrating patience, reliability, and the ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Familiarity with various SEN support techniques (e.g., Makaton, Attention Autism) is advantageous.
- Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced Child DBS registered on the update service.
