The Role :
A fantastic opportunity is available for a proactive and committed SEN Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated team at a well-regarded SEN School in Thetford. This role is offered on a full-time, long-term basis, supporting the class teacher and providing direct assistance to students with various needs (which may include Autism, MLD, SLD, and communication difficulties).
Your role is essential to the smooth running of the classroom and the individual progress of the students. You will work closely with the class teacher to implement highly differentiated learning activities, provide 1:1 or small group support, and help manage the classroom environment, focusing on fostering independence and positive behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support to students, helping them to focus on tasks and understand instructions, as directed by the class teacher and aligned with EHCP goals.
- Assist in the preparation of highly differentiated learning resources and maintain a stimulating, safe, and tidy classroom environment.
- Support the implementation of positive behaviour management strategies and nurture effective communication and social skills among students.
- Aid students with their personal care needs (where required) and mobility, always upholding the highest standards of dignity and safeguarding.
- Report accurately and effectively on student progress, well-being, and any notable incidents to the class teacher and relevant staff.
- Collaborate effectively with the class teacher, other TAs, and external professionals (e.g., therapists).
Requirements
- Proven experience (paid or voluntary) working with children or young people with Special Educational Needs is highly desirable.
- A strong, calm, and resilient approach with excellent communication skills and the ability to build immediate rapport with students and staff.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn specialist communication methods (e.g., PECS, Makaton) is a plus.
- High levels of professionalism, reliability, and the ability to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one promptly).
