The Role: Vital Presence in ThetfordWe are actively seeking a reliable and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to work at a dedicated SEN school located near Thetford.
This position involves delivering essential, tailored support, often on a one-to-one or small group basis. You will be working with pupils who present a range of complex needs, including Severe and Profound Learning Difficulties (SLD/PMLD), complex medical needs, and specific communication disorders. Your daily presence will be crucial in creating a stimulating, safe, and emotionally supportive learning environment.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver bespoke support that enables students to focus, manage their sensory environment, and participate as fully as possible in their highly differentiated lessons.
- Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and medical staff to prepare the classroom, adapting resources to meet the unique physical and cognitive needs of the pupils.
- Implement specific therapeutic and communication strategies outlined in students' support plans, including those related to Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and alternative communication methods.
- Be a consistent emotional anchor, employing gentle de-escalation skills and proactively promoting positive coping and interaction skills.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of student engagement, learning milestones, and overall well-being to inform holistic progress reviews.
- Assist pupils with intimate care, personal hygiene, feeding, and mobility as required, ensuring these duties are performed with the utmost discretion, respect, and dignity.
Candidate Profile
- Solid, verifiable experience supporting children or young people with complex, multi-faceted SEN, ideally within a specialist school or care setting.
- An inherently calm, compassionate, and highly resilient character, coupled with a deep-seated enthusiasm for supporting vulnerable learners.
- The capacity to forge strong, professional relationships quickly with pupils who have diverse social and emotional needs.
- Excellent skills in observation, professional communication, and working cohesively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- A current Enhanced Child DBS certificate on the update service (or the willingness to apply immediately).
