Your Impact: Essential Support in ThetfordWe are seeking a proactive and committed individual to serve as a Specialist Teaching Assistant (TA) within a supportive SEN school setting in Thetford. This position is vital to the delivery of high-quality, bespoke education.
You will primarily offer 1:1 and small group intervention to young people with diverse needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication difficulties, and moderate to severe learning disabilities. Your consistent support will be instrumental in cultivating a secure, encouraging, and effective learning experience for every student.
Key Responsibilities (What You'll Be Doing)- Provide differentiated support to help students access tailored curriculum tasks, manage sensory stimulation, and actively engage in classroom activities.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and specialist staff (e.g., Speech & Language Therapists) to customise resources and organize activities that meet specific educational and sensory profiles.
- Implement strategies detailed in student's individual support plans (EHCPs), focusing on promoting functional communication and independence.
- Serve as a reliable, positive presence, utilising calm de-escalation methods and positive behaviour support during difficult moments.
- Document and report accurately on student engagement, behaviour trends, and overall developmental milestones.
- Assist pupils with personal care, mobility, and feeding requirements as necessary, always maintaining dignity and professional discretion.
- Demonstrable experience working with children or young adults, preferably within a special educational needs environment or supporting complex learning profiles.
- An inherently calm temperament, high degree of empathy, and strong resilience are essential.
- A proven ability to quickly build trusting, professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and observational, particularly in responding to non-verbal communication cues.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or readiness to apply immediately).
- A highly competitive daily rate of £90 - £95, reflective of your specialist skills.
