Are you seeking a flexible assignment-be it short-term, long-term, or potentially permanent-where your initiative, resilience, and compassion are recognised and celebrated as essential to the school's success?
If you are prepared to dedicate your skills to fostering the independence, communication, and overall well-being of wonderful students with special educational needs, then this immediate opening in Thetford is the perfect fit for you!
The Position:
We are looking for a highly proactive, emotionally intelligent, and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant to join the dedicated staff team at a respected specialist school in Thetford. This position starts on a temporary basis but holds significant potential for transition into a permanent role.
This role is integral to providing a personalised learning experience. You will collaborate closely with the Class Teacher and various specialists (like OTs and SaLTs) to prepare classroom activities, manage resources, and primarily deliver focused, one-on-one, and small-group support. A core part of your day will involve putting strategies from Individual Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) into action, supporting students with their sensory regulation, daily routines, and personal care (where necessary), ensuring a supportive, structured, and enjoyable school experience.
Key Responsibilities Summary
- Deliver high-impact, individualised support to students, helping them fully engage with the curriculum and meet the objectives laid out in their EHCPs.
- Assist the lead teacher in setting up learning materials, organising the classroom, and supporting general behaviour management strategies.
- Provide necessary personal and intimate care support (e.g., assistance with feeding, mobility, or toileting), always upholding the student's privacy and dignity.
- Skillfully employ specialised communication methods (e.g., use of visual aids, communication boards, or established techniques like PECS/Makaton) and positive handling approaches.
- Maintain accurate daily records regarding student progress, behaviour incidents, and any critical observations for handover to the teaching and leadership team.
- Act as a positive role model, ensuring strict adherence to all school policies, especially those concerning safeguarding children.
Core Candidate Profile
- Proven, recent experience as a Teaching Assistant, with a clear preference for those who have worked in an SEN setting or with pupils with complex needs.
- A relevant qualification (e.g., TA Level 2/3) or substantial experience demonstrating an equivalent level of knowledge and skill.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully support children with diverse needs (e.g., ASC, MLD, Communication Needs).
- Exceptional qualities of empathy, patience, adaptability, and a strong inner drive to advocate for students facing barriers to learning.
- Familiarity with various effective communication tools and techniques for supporting positive behaviour.
- Possession of a current, clear Enhanced Child DBS certificate registered on the Update Service (or readiness to commence an application immediately).
What You Will Receive
- A highly attractive daily pay rate ranging from £90 to £95, paid weekly.
- The chance to integrate into a welcoming, highly specialised, and cooperative staff community in the Thetford area.
- Valuable, consistent, and practical professional experience within a forward-thinking SEN provision.
- A profoundly satisfying job where your input directly shapes the daily success and long-term achievements of young people.
- £300 Candidate Referral Bonus
