The core function of this position is to facilitate highly personalised learning and well-being. You will work in close partnership with the Class Teacher and therapeutic professionals to manage classroom logistics and deliver targeted support. Your primary focus will be on the direct implementation of strategies detailed in students' Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs). This includes promoting functional communication, fostering independence, and assisting with essential sensory and personal care routines, thereby ensuring a positive and enriching school experience.
Key Accountabilities
- Deliver focused, high-quality support to students, individually or in small groups, to help them access the adapted curriculum and achieve EHCP objectives.
- Assist the Class Teacher with preparation of educational materials, maintaining an engaging learning environment, and general classroom support.
- Provide necessary personal care support (e.g., mobility, hygiene, feeding) in a respectful and dignified manner.
- Implement approved positive behaviour strategies and utilise alternative communication methods (such as Makaton or PECS) under the guidance of school specialists.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, behaviour incidents, and report any significant concerns promptly to the appropriate staff.
- Actively uphold all school policies, especially those relating to safeguarding and child protection.
Essential Criteria
- Proven, substantial experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally gained within a dedicated SEN environment.
- A relevant TA qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3) is advantageous, although extensive, relevant professional experience is highly valued.
- Demonstrated capability in supporting young people with a broad spectrum of Special Educational Needs (e.g., Complex Needs, PMLD, ASC).
- Outstanding levels of resilience, patience, flexibility, and a deep-seated commitment to supporting students with learning barriers.
- Familiarity with various communication aids and effective positive behaviour support techniques.
- Must hold or be prepared to apply immediately for an Enhanced Child DBS check registered on the Update Service.
We Offer
- A highly competitive daily pay rate of £90 to £95.
- The chance to join a specialist, collaborative, and friendly team in a highly regarded Thetford location.
- Continuous, invaluable professional experience in a leading specialist education setting.
- A profoundly meaningful role that delivers tangible, positive change to students' daily lives and long-term outlook.
- £300 Refer A Friend scheme.
