An exciting opportunity is available for a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join our partner Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Thetford. We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic individual to provide tailored support to students with a range of complex needs, including Autism (ASC) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges. This role is perfect for someone who is passionate about inclusion and wants to make a tangible difference in the daily lives of young learners.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with learning activities and navigate their school day.
- Assist the class teacher in preparing and adapting differentiated resources, including visual schedules and sensory tools.
- Support students with their social and emotional development, employing positive reinforcement and de-escalation strategies when needed.
- Monitor and record student progress against their Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
- Assist with personal care and mobility requirements where necessary, ensuring the dignity and safety of every student.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages independence and self-esteem.
Requirements
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (e.g., ASD, ADHD, or SEMH) is highly desirable.
- A patient, adaptable, and resilient nature, with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
- A basic understanding of the SEN Code of Practice and the role of EHCPs in a school setting.
- Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning) are an advantage but not essential for those with significant experience.
- A Child DBS on the update service (or a willingness to obtain one).
