Are you ready to be the anchor for a student navigating a complex world?
Do you have the emotional intelligence to understand that "behaviour is communication" and the dedication to help a child find their voice?
We are looking for a Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant to join a compassionate and highly skilled team at a specialist school in Thetford. This is a full-time, long-term role where you will support pupils with a range of needs, including Autism (ASC), social and emotional challenges (SEMH), and moderate learning difficulties. If you are looking for a role where your patience and empathy are your most valuable tools, we want to hear from you.
Your Contribution to the Classroom

- Regulation Support: Act as a calming influence during moments of distress, utilising positive behaviour strategies and "cool-down" techniques to help students regain focus.
- Communication Aid: Assist non-verbal or pre-verbal learners using visual aids, symbols, and basic sign language to ensure their needs and feelings are understood.
- Goal Achievement: Help students reach the milestones set out in their Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP), celebrating every small victory along the way.
- Social Integration: Facilitate inclusive play and social interaction during breaks and group activities, helping students build vital peer relationships.
What You'll Need
- An Empathetic Heart: A genuine desire to improve the lives of young people with additional needs.
- Resilience: The ability to stay positive and proactive, even during challenging days.
- Adaptability: You can think on your feet and change your approach to suit a student's fluctuating energy or sensory levels.
- Experience: Previous work with children or adults in a care, school, or youth work setting is highly desirable.
- Vetting: You must hold an enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service or be willing to apply for one.
