Thetford
Are you the kind of person who sees a "challenge" as an opportunity to find a more creative way to connect?
Do you have the emotional grit to stay composed when a student is overwhelmed and the genuine warmth to celebrate the "inch-stones" that represent massive personal victories?
We are seeking a proactive and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant to join a wonderful SEN School in Thetford. This is a full-time, long-term commitment to a classroom where no two days are the same. You will be supporting pupils with various needs, primarily Autism (ASC) and Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), ensuring they have a safe, structured, and compassionate environment in which to thrive.
Your Daily Impact: Responsibilities
- Tailored 1:1 Intervention: Deliver bespoke learning activities that match a student's energy, interest, and sensory needs in real-time.
- Communication Facilitation: Empower students using PECS, Makaton, and visual choice boards, ensuring every learner has a functional way to express their feelings and needs.
- Sensory & Emotional Regulation: Act as a co-regulator for students, utilising "brain breaks" and low-arousal techniques to prevent and manage dysregulation.
- EHCP Evidence Gathering: Work alongside the Class Teacher to observe and document the "small-steps" of progress for Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) reviews.
- Compassionate Personal Care: Assist with mobility and personal hygiene needs, ensuring the student's dignity and privacy are respected at all times.
- Team Synergy: Function as a proactive member of a tight-knit classroom team, identifying potential triggers before they lead to challenging moments.
What You'll Bring to the Team
- A "Calm Anchor" Personality: The ability to remain compassionate and steady when a student is in crisis or exhibiting challenging behaviour.
- High Emotional Intelligence: You can read a student's body language and anticipate their needs before they become frustrated.
- Unwavering Reliability: Our students find change difficult; we need a dependable professional who will be a consistent figure in their daily routine.
- A Learner's Mindset: Whether you have a background in care, psychology, or youth work, you are eager to learn and implement new specialist techniques.
- Compliance: An enhanced Child DBS on the Update Service (or a willingness to process a new one through Randstad).
Why Choose Randstad?
