Key Responsibilities:
Your role will be key to helping pupils thrive within the mainstream curriculum. Your responsibilities will include:
Effectively using visual supports, social stories, and specialist techniques (like PECS or Makaton) to aid pupils' understanding and expression.
Supporting the child during group work and unstructured times (like play and lunch) to promote positive social interaction.
Helping the pupil manage sensory input and process emotions, reducing anxiety and preventing escalation.
Adapting learning materials and routines to suit the pupil's specific learning style and sensory needs.
Preparing the pupil for changes in routine and lesson shifts, providing predictability and reassurance.
Requirements:
To excel in this position, you must possess:
Demonstrable experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in a mainstream or specialist setting.
Proven ability to use or train in PECS, Makaton, or visual support systems.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable, but strong, relevant experience is essential.
Exceptional attention to detail, consistency, and a proactive mindset.
