The Opportunity: Essential Assistance in WaterbeachWe have a fantastic role available for a motivated and reliable SEN Teaching Assistant (TA) / Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to integrate with a well-established specialist SEN provision in the Waterbeach area.
This position is absolutely crucial for maintaining the school's delivery of high-quality, person-centred education. You will deliver essential one-to-one and small group support to pupils with a wide spectrum of complex needs, potentially including Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). Your proactive work will help ensure a nurturing, inclusive, and stable learning experience for all.
Core Duties- Provide essential, individualised assistance, helping students to access highly differentiated learning targets, manage environmental stimuli, and participate actively in all aspects of school life.
- Work collaboratively with the class teacher and specialist staff (e.g., therapists, medical professionals) to prepare teaching aids, arrange specialised activities, and ensure the environment supports sensory and physical access.
- Implement specific therapeutic, behavioural, and communication strategies detailed in each student's Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), including the consistent use of alternative communication methods.
- Act as a reliable and calm point of contact, expertly using de-escalation techniques and fostering positive communication during emotionally challenging times.
- Contribute to continuous observation, recording, and reporting on pupil engagement, learning milestones, and overall holistic development.
- Assist students with essential personal care, feeding, and mobility when required, performing all tasks with the utmost respect, dignity, and professional integrity.
- Demonstrated experience supporting children or young people, with previous experience in a specialist SEN environment or with pupils with complex needs being highly valued.
- A naturally calm, deeply empathetic, and highly resilient character, with a genuine passion for the specialist educational field.
- The ability to quickly build sincere, professional, and trusting relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Excellent skills in observation, professional communication, and teamwork, particularly in interpreting and reacting to subtle non-verbal cues.
- An up-to-date Enhanced Child DBS registered with the update service (or the willingness to process an application promptly).
