The Opportunity
We are recruiting a dedicated Inclusion Support Specialist (SEN TA) for an excellent, long-term opportunity within a highly regarded school in the Waterbeach area. The school is committed to providing a fully inclusive education for all its learners.
This pivotal role involves providing focused, high-quality 1:1 and small-group support to pupils, with a primary focus on those on the Autism Spectrum. Your responsibility will be to implement structured support plans, manage sensory needs, facilitate communication, and help students successfully access the curriculum and navigate the social complexities of the school day.
Core Responsibilities
- Provide direct, targeted support to pupils with ASD, adhering strictly to visual timetables, social stories, and individualised behaviour plans.
- Assist the Class Teacher in adapting lesson materials, ensuring clear, literal instructions and reducing potential sensory overload in the learning environment.
- Facilitate effective communication using agreed methods (e.g., PECS, simplified language, visual aids) and support the pupil in understanding social cues.
- Proactively manage and mitigate anxieties or challenging behaviour by recognising triggers and implementing established de-escalation and calming strategies.
- Support pupils during transitions, break times, and extra-curricular activities to promote successful social integration and adherence to school routines.
- Monitor, track, and accurately record pupil progress related to both academic targets and EHCP goals (particularly in communication and social skills).
- Collaborate effectively with parents, therapists, and the SENCO to ensure a consistent, integrated support approach.
Essential Profile
- Strong professional experience supporting children or young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), particularly in an inclusion-focused setting.
- Proven ability to implement structured methodologies (e.g., TEACCH principles, visual schedules) and manage sensory sensitivities.
- A naturally calm, consistent, and highly predictable demeanour, essential for building trust with pupils on the spectrum.
- Excellent observational skills, allowing for the proactive anticipation of behavioural or sensory needs.
- High levels of reliability, organisation, and commitment to safeguarding protocols.
- Possession of an Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or willingness to complete one promptly).
Benefits of Joining Us
- A competitive daily pay rate of £90 - £95, commensurate with your expertise and the specialist nature of the support required.
- Placement within an inclusive, professional, and supportive school community in the Waterbeach area.
- Access to valuable CPD specifically focused on ASD best practice, communication strategies, and sensory integration.
- A deeply fulfilling role that directly contributes to the stability, happiness, and educational success of supported pupils.
- £300 Refer A Friend scheme (terms apply).
