Location: Wickford, Essex
Contract: Temporary - Term-time only Job Type: FlexibleThe Opportunity
Are you a compassionate, resilient, and "big-hearted" individual looking to make a profound difference? We are an Ofsted 'Outstanding' special school in Wickford dedicated to empowering children and young people aged 3-19 with severe and complex learning difficulties.
As part of a leading national academy trust, we provide a nurturing and ambitious environment where we "push the limits" of what's possible for our students. You will work within a purpose-built, world-class facility featuring modern sensory rooms, therapy spaces, and immersive learning technology designed specifically for our pupils' unique needs.
Your Role
You won't just be a classroom assistant; you will be a mentor, advocate, and facilitator. Your daily responsibilities will include:
- Tailored Support: Delivering 1:1 or small group interventions for pupils with Autism, ADHD, and profound/multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
- Collaboration: Working alongside a multidisciplinary team of Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists.
Holistic Care: Assisting with personal care, mobility, and medical needs (training provided) to ensure the physical and emotional welfare of every student.
- Environment: Creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom atmosphere that reduces anxiety and promotes independence.
What We Are Looking For
Qualifications: Ideally Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or equivalent), though we value experience and attitude above all.
Experience: Previous experience in an SEN setting or with young people with disabilities is highly desirable.
Attributes: Exceptional patience, a calm demeanor in stressful situations, and a genuine passion for special education.
Skills: Strong communication skills and basic ICT literacy to track pupil progress and support digital learning.
Why Join Us?
Professional Growth: Access to industry-leading CPD, including specialized training in Makaton, PECS, and epilepsy/medical management.
Exceptional Facilities: Work in a school recognized nationally for its design, featuring wheelchair-accessible outdoor gyms and specialized soft-play areas.
Network Benefits: As part of a larger family of schools, enjoy generous benefits, including healthcare schemes, lifestyle perks (gym/travel discounts), and electric vehicle incentives.
Ready to start your journey with us? If you are "unusually brave" and ready to discover what's possible for our students, we would love to hear from you.
