The Role: SEND Teacher
This challenging and deeply rewarding role focuses on the educational and developmental needs of students on the SEND register. You will be responsible for providing specialist teaching both within a dedicated resource base and through in-class support across the curriculum. The primary objective is to facilitate access to the core curriculum and develop essential functional skills (literacy, numeracy, communication) for students requiring bespoke provision.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialist teaching and targeted intervention groups focusing on core skills (e.g., phonics, reading comprehension, basic mathematics) for pupils with identified SEND.
- Lead the assessment of students' specific learning needs, utilizing diagnostic tools to create precise learning profiles and set achievable, ambitious targets.
- Work closely with the SENCO to develop, implement, and review personalized learning plans and EHCP outcomes, ensuring statutory compliance.
- Train, support, and mentor Teaching Assistants (TAs) to ensure the effectiveness of their deployment across the school.
- Act as a key worker and liaison for a designated caseload of students, building strong, positive relationships with pupils, parents, and outside professionals (e.g., therapists, educational psychologists).
- Collaborate with mainstream subject teachers to model and advise on high-quality inclusive practice and scaffolding techniques.
- Monitor the emotional well-being and academic progress of students with SEND, reporting back to the leadership team and governing body as required.
What We're Looking For
We are searching for a true advocate for students with SEND who brings expertise and energy to the role.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and significant, demonstrable experience supporting and teaching students with a broad spectrum of SEND (e.g., specific learning difficulties, MLD, ASC).
- Expert knowledge of evidence-based intervention strategies for literacy and numeracy.
- A deep and practical understanding of the SEND Code of Practice and its application in a secondary setting.
- An organized professional capable of managing a complex workload, writing detailed reports, and meeting statutory deadlines.
- Exceptional communication skills, with a patient, empathetic, and resilient approach to working with vulnerable students.
- Proactive and resourceful, able to develop creative solutions and engaging resources tailored to individual needs.
