We're looking for someone to provide essential 1:1 and small-group support to pupils with a wide range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
Key Responsibilities:
As a SEND Teaching Assistant in a specialist setting, your role is crucial to the pupils' well-being and development. Your responsibilities will include:
Delivering highly individualised support to pupils with severe, profound, and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).
Confidently using alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) methods, such as Makaton, PECS, or specialist technology, to foster engagement.
Supporting pupils through their sensory needs, implementing personalised sensory diets and environmental adjustments.
Assisting with all aspects of personal care, ensuring the highest level of dignity, safety, and respect for every pupil.
Working closely with occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and speech and language therapists to deliver tailored intervention programmes.
Meticulously tracking and documenting pupil progress against their complex Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).
Requirements:
To succeed in this unique and rewarding role, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children or young people with complex and profound SEND in a specialist school or care setting.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable, but extensive, specialist experience is paramount.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
Specific training in areas such as Team Teach, Makaton, PECS, or manual handling is highly advantageous.
A calm, patient, highly resilient, and flexible approach is essential.
