Randstad Education is seeking a compassionate and dedicated SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant for a rewarding role in a mainstream primary school in the Wakefield area. We are looking for someone to provide crucial support to pupils with Special Educational Needs and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health challenges.
Requirements:
To succeed in this position, you must have:
Demonstrable experience working with children who have Special Educational Needs (SEND) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
A Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification is highly desirable, but extensive, relevant experience is essential.
An Enhanced Child DBS on the update service (or be willing to apply for a new one).
The legal right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
A naturally resilient, patient, and empathetic nature.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
First Aid training is preferred, but not essential.
Key Responsibilities:
As an SEN/SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be instrumental in ensuring a pupil feels safe, secure, and ready to learn. You will be responsible for:
Providing consistent one-on-one and small-group support to help pupils develop their emotional intelligence and social skills.
Implementing the school's positive behaviour management strategies and using de-escalation techniques to support pupils during difficult moments.
Working closely with the class teacher to adapt activities and lessons, ensuring the pupil can fully participate in all areas of the curriculum.
Fostering a strong and trusting relationship with the pupil, becoming a key adult they can turn to for guidance.
Assisting with academic tasks and helping the pupil stay focused and engaged with their learning.
Providing accurate and detailed feedback to the class teacher and SENCO on the pupil's progress and well-being.
