We are working with a highly reputable and well-established National Main Contractor, who is seeking a talented and driven Senior Estimator to join their successful team based out of their Glasgow office. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in the continued growth and success of the company, working on high-value projects across Scotland and the wider UK.
The Role:
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders for a variety of commercial Design & Build projects. You will work collaboratively with internal teams, clients, and supply chain partners to ensure all aspects of the tender are comprehensively addressed and submitted within strict deadlines.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Preparing detailed and accurate cost estimates for Design & Build commercial projects across various sectors (e.g., offices, retail, industrial, education, healthcare).
- Reviewing tender documents, drawings, and specifications to identify key requirements and potential risks.
- Interpreting client requirements and developing innovative and cost-effective solutions.
- Engaging with supply chain partners to obtain competitive quotations for materials, labour, and specialist services.
- Carrying out detailed take-offs and measurements from drawings and specifications.
- Analysing and evaluating subcontractor proposals to ensure compliance and best value.
- Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients, consultants, and supply chain.
- Preparing tender submission documents, including breakdowns, qualifications, and clarifications.
- Presenting estimates to senior management for review and approval.
- Attending pre-tender meetings and client interviews as required.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of market conditions, material costs, and construction methods.
- Mentoring and supporting junior members of the estimating team.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the estimating department.
About You:
- Proven experience as a Senior Estimator within a Main Contracting environment, specifically with Design & Build commercial schemes.
- A strong track record of successfully winning projects across a range of sectors.
- Excellent understanding of construction methods, materials, and processes.
- Proficient in using estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with an acute attention to detail.
- Ability to read and interpret complex architectural and engineering drawings.
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- A proactive and collaborative approach to teamwork.
- Relevant construction-related qualification (e.g., Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or equivalent) would be preferential.
