About the Role:
As a Senior Quantity Surveyor dedicated to the Scottish Power Framework, you will be a key commercial leader, responsible for the financial success and contractual integrity of multiple, often high-value, energy infrastructure schemes. These projects encompass a diverse range of works, including new build and upgrades to overhead lines, substations, subsea cables, and associated civil engineering.
You will operate with a high degree of autonomy, providing expert commercial guidance to project teams, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring robust financial control and risk management from inception to final account.
Key Responsibilities:
Commercial Leadership: Lead the commercial function for assigned Scottish Power Framework projects, ensuring profitability and effective cash flow management.
Strategic Cost Management: Develop and implement advanced cost plans, detailed budgets, and value engineering strategies to optimise project outcomes.
Complex Contract Administration: Expertly administer and advise on sophisticated contracts (predominantly NEC, with potential for bespoke Scottish Power forms), including drafting, negotiating, and resolving high-value variations, claims, and disputes.
Risk & Opportunity Management: Proactively identify, assess, and strategically manage complex commercial risks and opportunities across the project portfolio. Develop and implement mitigation strategies.
Procurement & Supply Chain: Lead procurement activities, including tender preparation, rigorous bid analysis, contract negotiation, and robust supply chain management to ensure best value.
Financial Reporting & Forecasting: Prepare comprehensive and insightful financial reports, detailed cost-value reconciliations, and accurate forecasts for senior management and clients.
Claims Management: Lead the preparation and defence of claims, as well as the assessment and negotiation of claims from subcontractors and clients.
Mentorship & Development: Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to junior Quantity Surveyors and commercial team members, fostering their professional development.
Client & Stakeholder Management: Cultivate strong, collaborative relationships with Scottish Power representatives, contractors, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, acting as a trusted commercial advisor.
Compliance & Governance: Ensure strict adherence to contractual obligations, commercial governance procedures, and all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations.
What We're Looking For:
Extensive Experience: Significant and demonstrable experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor, with a strong background in large-scale civils, utilities, or energy infrastructure projects.
Framework Expertise: In-depth, hands-on experience and comprehensive understanding of the Scottish Power Framework (or similar complex utility frameworks) and associated commercial practices.
Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline. RICS accreditation is essential.
Contractual Mastery: Expert knowledge and practical application of NEC forms of contract (e.g., Option C, E) is critical, alongside a strong understanding of contract law.
Commercial Acumen: Exceptional commercial awareness, strategic thinking, and a proven ability to identify and secure commercial advantages.
Analytical & Problem Solving: Highly analytical with superior problem-solving skills, capable of resolving complex commercial challenges and making sound decisions under pressure.
Leadership & Communication: Excellent leadership qualities, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and communicate complex commercial information clearly and concisely to all levels of stakeholders.
IT Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel and relevant cost management software.
Driving Licence: A full UK driving licence is essential, as travel to various project sites across Scotland will be required.
