North Yorkshire Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. Our Court Work Team plays a critical role in progressing care proceedings, ensuring children achieve permanence, and providing high-quality social work evidence and analysis to the Family Court.
The Role:
As a Senior Social Worker in the Court Work Team, you will manage a complex and demanding caseload of public law outline (PLO) and care proceedings. You will be responsible for providing expert social work evidence and analysis to the Family Court, working collaboratively with legal professionals to secure timely and appropriate permanence plans for children. Your role will involve:
- Managing a caseload of complex care proceedings, working effectively within tight legal timescales.
- Preparing high-quality, analytical, and evidence-based court reports (e.g., Annex A, Annex C, PAMS assessments).
- Giving clear, confident, and professional evidence in Family Court proceedings.
- Working in close partnership with legal teams, barristers, CAFCASS, and parents' solicitors.
- Driving permanence for children, including robust planning for adoption, Special Guardianship Orders (SGOs), and long-term fostering.
- Providing guidance, support, and mentoring to less experienced social workers within the team regarding court processes and practice.
- Undertaking robust risk assessments and developing comprehensive care plans that address identified needs.
- Maintaining accurate, concise, and timely electronic case records.
About You:
We are looking for a resilient, highly motivated, and experienced Social Worker with:
- A recognised Social Work qualification.
- Current registration with Social Work England.
- Significant 5 years post-qualifying experience in children's social care, with substantial experience in court work and care proceedings.
- An expert understanding of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989, Adoption and Children Act 2002, and Family Procedure Rules.
- Demonstrable experience in preparing high-quality court reports and providing evidence in court.
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and written communication skills.
- The ability to work effectively under pressure and manage competing demands within strict legal deadlines.
- A commitment to promoting the voice of the child throughout the court process.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for business use (or ability to travel efficiently across the county).
What We Offer:
- A competitive rate of £44.14 per hour.
- The opportunity to make a profound and lasting difference in the lives of children and families.
- A dedicated and supportive team environment with regular, high-quality supervision.
- Excellent opportunities for professional development and specialist training in court practice.
- Access to a range of employee benefits (details available upon request).
